Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What does 'night-time shutoff' or 'light sensor' mean?

Most cuckoo clocks (either mechanical or battery powered) come with 'night-time shutoff' in either a manual or 'light sensor' variety. This just means that both varieties enable you to control when the clock makes sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks have a manual 'night-time shutoff' which are usually a lever with 2 positions - sound on or sound off.

Battery powered cuckoo clocks usually come with an automatic 'night-time shutoff' otherwise known as a light sensor which detects light levels and disables sound when the lights are off or it is very dark. While some include volume levels as well as sound on/off positions, some models also include an option to stop the sound between the hours of 9:00pm and 8:00am.

'Crooked' Cuckoo Clock (Light wood and blue) by Progetti

Designed by Alberto Sala for Progetti, 'Crooked' is an amusing cuckoo clock of unconventional style. It's round pendulum and coloured clock face are the only natural shapes one finds familiar. It's crooked uneven shape and cheerful colours, skilfully mixed by the designer, make this cuckoo clock 'house' unique from the top to bottom.

The clock is made of wood and is varnished with nontoxic paint. It is available in four versions: the first two are orange and red or green and navy, the third and fourth have a wooden element and are made in pale wood with blue and navy details or dark wood with red and green details.

This cuckoo clock's quartz movement is battery powered and the cuckoo strike, which chimes on the hour with the sound of a light babbling brook and sweet cuckoo call, can be volume controlled and is also switched off automatically during the night by a built-in light sensor.

All Progetti cuckoo clocks are fitted with an Engstler™ clock & cuckoo mechanism which is custom built by the Engstler cuckoo clock manufacturer in the Black Forest region, Germany. Their craftsmanship ensures your cuckoo clock works as wonderfully as the world-famous traditional cuckoo clocks of the Black Forest region.

Worried about your order arriving on time? Nine out of ten of our orders arrive within the estimated delivery time or even earlier. However sometimes there can be factors (such as availability and delivery location) that can affect the delivery time and lengthen it by a few days or even a week or two for some more complex models. In such cases we will keep you informed of the delay and work with the the manufacturer and courier throughout the process to make it as simple as possible for you to rest assured knowing your clock is on track to you. Many of our clocks are held in stock with our suppliers but, depending on the model/brand, some are built-to-order by one of our many manufacturers in Italy, Germany, Japan or Switzerland. We appreciate your patience in such cases and we will inform you of the tracking details as soon as your order is shipped from the manufacturer or supplier.

At any time, if you have questions or concerns about the delivery time of your order (maybe because it's for a birthday, wedding or Christmas present) then let us know and we will do our best to fast-track the order with our manufacturers. Contact us here.
